The Tibetan Medical Tradition

Tibetan medicine is an assimilation of the Ayurvedic medical tradition, which it imported with Buddhism from India,Greece and many forms of Han Chinese medicine which were gradually incorporated. This original blend created a complex system of healing which interweaves spiritual, magical, and rational healing practices based on the view of health as a harmonious balance between man’s relationship with his physical, mental, spiritual and natural worlds. In addition to being a relatively secular approach to health and well-being, involving medicines and dietary and practical suggestions, the Tibetan healing practice is rich in Buddhist tantrism and ritual symbolism.
Basically the Tibetan healing art covers food, living habits, medicine, and outside therapeutics.

  1. Proper Life-style Recommendations : Physical and mental health require a balanced circulation of three energies-Bile, Phlegm and vital wind- through the channels , organs, tissues and coordinating centers of the body. When these energies are out of balance or impeded in their flow, illness results. The cause of energetic imbalance and blockage include poor diet, emotional shock or trauma, fatigue, tension, over-work, exposure to bad weather, and micro-organism.What has to be pointed out right here is that to maintain a proper sexual life according to one’s age, physical conditions based on climatic changes from season to season. More specifically, the Tibetan medical practice encourages individuals to fully enjoy sexual life in the winter while there is plenty of physique accumulation in the body. Therefore, there is no limit to the number of delights as long as one wants to. On the contrary, man has to be restricted with their desires due to the fact that the hot summer weather does damage to the sperm bank. What is worse, over-indulgence in the middle of summer may weaken human organs all the way to ED or deafness. So an ideal sexual life is once every other day both in spring and fall, and most important of all, only one time every half month. Undeniably it is especially so when one is up on the hill among the elderly.? Tibetan doctors will classify the living habits into: (1) daily routine, (2) seasonal routine, (3) temporary behavior.? Nevertheless, it is by no means to say that Tibetan medicine advocates any type of asceticism. Asceticism or over indulgence is the cause of health disorders.
The way to keep in good health long ago became the center of the Tibetan medicine as long as the famous work the Four-Volume Medical Code-r Gyud.
